Interior Design in Tulum and the Riviera Maya
Interior design in Tulum is defined by a distinctive convergence of elements: the natural environment pressing in at every boundary, an international client base with refined expectations, and a regional material palette, stone, wood, plaster, water, that gives Tulum interiors their unmistakable character. At PGA, interior design is not treated as a separate discipline applied after construction ends. It is developed alongside the architecture from the earliest stages of a project, ensuring that spatial proportions, natural light, material finishes, and built-in furnishings are resolved as an integrated whole.
Roberto Carli and the PGA team design interiors for private residences, boutique hotels, restaurants, and commercial spaces across Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and the Riviera Maya.
Our Interior Design Approach
Integrated with Architecture
When PGA is responsible for both the architecture and the interior design, the two are developed together. We do not overlay decoration onto a finished shell. We resolve the relationship between structure and space, between surface and light, between inside and outside, from the beginning of the design process.
Material Selection
The Riviera Maya has a rich local material culture that PGA draws on extensively. We work with chukum natural plaster, local Yucatán stone, exposed concrete, reclaimed tropical hardwoods, handmade ceramic tiles, and regional artisan products, selected not only for aesthetic quality but for proven durability in the tropical climate.
Furniture & Fixtures Specification
We specify furniture, lighting, sanitary ware, hardware, and all interior fixtures and fittings. For clients who want fully furnished interiors, particularly for investment properties or boutique hotels, we coordinate procurement, delivery, and installation as part of a complete furnishing package.
Spatial Planning & Built-in Elements
Built-in joinery, cabinetry, shelving, kitchen design, and bathroom layouts are designed and specified as part of the interior design scope. Every element is drawn to scale and detailed for precise fabrication by local workshops and craftspeople.
Interior Design for Rental and Investment Properties
Many of PGA's clients are investors developing properties in Tulum for the short-term rental market. Interior design plays a direct role in rental performance. Thoughtfully designed properties, with high-quality photography, distinctive character, and durable finishes, command higher nightly rates and achieve stronger occupancy on platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO.
PGA designs interiors with investment performance in mind: easy to maintain, durable in humid conditions, visually strong for photography, and differentiated from the generic rental inventory in the Tulum market.
